We are UMass-Amherst English PhD students in Medieval and Renaissance Literature, those writing in Amherst and those who have deserted Amherst to dissert elsewhere.
Did you guys see Greenblatt on the Colbert Report? I just found the video here at a blog that posts info on happenings in the Renaissance Literature world (of today).
First off, Adam Smyth's blog is outstanding. If I ever meet him my first questions will pertain to the artfully random, non-signifying photographs that accompany each post (did he take them all himself? Does he know that he repeats sometimes? Are they *ever* supposed to have the deep religious and political significance I over-read into them?)
They posted and are discussing the same Greenblatt-Colbert affair over at Blogging the Renaissance. Who quotes Richard III? Love it. And from the post comments I've learned Greenblatt was once destined to be the third member of Simon and Garfunkel.
